Lets Learn JAPANESE (Lesson 3)

It has been more than three weeks since Lesson 2 published. For those who have been waiting for the lesson, I am truly sorry. I was very busy working last month.

This time, lets learn about describing places.

Lesson 3: Describing Places

Ms A: It has been quite some time (since the last time we met). How are you?
[Ohisasshiburi desu. Ogenki desu ka?]

Mr B: Yes, it has. I am fine, thank you. Were you busy at work?
[Sou desu ne. Watashi wa genki desu. A-san no shigoto wa isogashii desu ka?]

Ms A: I'm sorry, I was busy (at work). I went to China for a business meeting. Are you going somewhere?

[Sumimasen deshita. Hataraku koto ga chotto isogashikatta desu. Chugoku e kaigi ni ikimashita. B-san wa doko e ikimasuka?]

[Achira no aoi biiru e ikimasu. Eki wa doko desu ka?]

Ms A: I see. There is no train station in this building. But, you can take (board) a bus over there.
[Naru hodo. Kono biiru de eki wa arimasen. Demo, sochira de basu o noremasu.]

Mr B: Can I take a bus to that building?
[Asoko ni basu de ikemasu ka?]

Ms A: Yes. You can take any bus to go there. Are you going on your own?

Lets Learn JAPANESE (Lesson 2)

**Updated entry : Thanks to a very good friend of mine who highlighted a few errors & mistakes made in the first entry published. This is an edited version of the post.

I received a feedback from a Japanese friend that triggers a thought to make the lesson not only exclusive to people who want to learn Japanese language, but to also include some English Language lesson. It will be great if the lesson could benefits both English and Japanese language users if I could find a way to incorporate both elements.

While finding the best solution on this matter, I hope the next lesson could help both language users at learning some basic language skills. It may be though and challenging for some, but remember to always have fun while learning (",)

Lesson 2: Starting a Conversation - Basic Introduction

Ms A : I am Diyana. Nice to meet you. I am from Malaysia.
[Hajimemashite. Watashi wa Diyana desu. Malaysia kara kimashita]

Mr B : Nice to meet you too. I am Honda, from Japan. Are you a Malaysian?
[Domo. Hajimemashite. Watashi wa Nihon kara kimashita Honda desu. Anata wa Malaysia-jin desu ka.]

Ms A : Yes, I am. Where are you from, Mr Honda?
[Hai, so desu. Honda-san wa nihon no doko kara kimashita ka.]

Mr B : I am from Tokyo. I want to learn English, could you please help to teach me?
[Tokyo kara kimashita. Watashi wa ei-go o benkyou shitai desu. Ohieste itadamakemasen ka.]

Ms A : I understand. Yes, (I would be happy) to teach you English. I want to learn Japanese also. Your help is very much appreciated as well.
[Wakarimashita. Oshiete agemasu. Watashi mo nihon go ga benkyou shitai desu. Kochira koso, yoroshiku onegaishimasu]

Mr B : Thank you very much.
[Domo arigato gozaimasu]

Ms A : You're welcome.
[Do itashimashite]

Hope the above can help you to practice more. Until next lesson, see ya!!!

Lets Learn JAPANESE (Lesson 1)

It has been quite sometime for me to use my Japanese language skills. I started learning the language on my own sometime about 10 years ago. I even did Japanese Language as a minor for my degree. There were several instances where I almost (take note here :-p) had the chance to really go to Japan and stay there.

I fell in love with the country and culture, and like many wise advise - One will learn more about a place and culture either by its food or language.

Perhaps it would be nice if I can share the knowledge about the language with others. Starting from today, I will regularly post basic Japanese language for others to start learning and enjoy the beauty of the language (just like I do). Have fun, ya..!!!

Lesson 1 : Basic Greetings
[ohayo gozaimasu]
[konnichiwa]
[konbanwa]
  • Good Night (before sleep): おやすみなさい。[oyasumi nasai]
  • How are you?: おげんきですか。[ogenki desu ka]
  • Please to meet you (1st time greeting): はじめまして。[hajimemashite]
  • I'm sorry/ Excuse me: すみません。[sumimasen]
[arigato gozaimasu]
  • See you again, next time: またあいましょう。[mata aimashou]
[sayonara]

For a start the above are the most common greetings used. Don't forget to practice (",)
